Why it matters

Too often, European consumers encounter products labeled as "Mexican" that fall short in quality, authenticity, and tradition. This not only leads to disappointment but also damages the image of Mexico. With the ratification of the EU-Mexico Trade Agreement, more Mexican products will enter the European market at competitive prices. Now is the time to ensure that what reaches the consumer is truly Mexican—in flavor, ingredients, and culture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get certified if my product is made outside of Mexico?

Yes! This certification is made for you.

Many truly authentic products—those with the traditional ingredients, flavor, and heart of Mexico—are crafted outside of the country. While they may not qualify for the official Hecho en México seal, our certification proudly recognizes them as genuinely Mexican. It’s our way of assuring restaurants and consumers that they’re getting the real thing—authentic Mexican quality, made accessible right here in Europe.

My product comes from Mexico and I have the "Hecho en México" seal. Do I need this certification?

Many products in the European market still display the outdated Hecho en México logos from 1978 or 2009 — versions that are no longer valid. In some cases, businesses are unable to meet one of the key requirements for the current Made in Mexico 2025 official seal: alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While your business works toward meeting the sustainability standards and protocols outlined in the UN SDGs, we offer an official seal and certificate that verifies your product as authentically Mexican — presented in the localized language of your European market. This not only builds trust with consumers in grocery stores but also provides clarity to retailers and partners who may be unsure about outdated or misused labels.

Give your brand the recognition and credibility it deserves — with a seal that speaks your market’s language and reflects today’s global standards.

Bonus: If you currently use an outdated Hecho en México seal, we offer our certificate for just €9 per product — because we recognize and value that your product is truly made in Mexico.

What happens if I don’t meet all the certification requirements?

No worries! We’ll send you a detailed report highlighting exactly where improvements are needed, along with practical suggestions to help you get there.

Our goal is to support you in reaching the level of authenticity that defines true Mexican products!

Why does the certification last only 5 years, and why is renewal required?

As a nonprofit organization, our goal is not to profit from the certification but to uphold the highest standards for authentic Mexican products across Europe. The Hecho en México seal is valid for 5 years, so if your product was fast-tracked into the European market, we will review its validity again at renewal. For products made in Europe, we will review any changes in ingredients.

Bonus: If your product is a member of MDEU, renewal fees are completely waived.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Yes — we offer full refunds if the rewiewing process hasn’t yet taken place. If that’s your case, please contact us right away and we’ll process your refund.
